Energy Policy Advocates filed a lawsuit against Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison seeking to compel the release of data under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. The plaintiff alleged that the attorney general's office unlawfully withheld correspondence of five staff members with other parties, including two University of Minnesota Law School professors, who the complaint alleged participated in a "successful campaign" to lobby the attorney general to file suits against fossil fuel industry lawsuits. The plaintiff alleged that the records sought would "fill in further information" about private parties' use of state institutions to pursue other private parties.
