    05/18/2009 Settlement Agreement Settlement agreement approved. The federal district court for the District of Alaska approved a settlement pursuant to which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agreed to make a preliminary decision by September 2009 regarding whether the Pacific walrus should be formally reviewed for potential listing under the Endangered Species Act.
    12/03/2008 Complaint Complaint filed. The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to issue a decision regarding CBD's petition to list the Pacific walrus as a threatened or endangered species under the Endangered Species Act because of climate change. CBD submitted its petition in February 2008.
