The Center for Biological Diversity filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of the Interior, EPA, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Department of State in the federal district court for the District of Columbia seeking to compel the agencies to provide records of any directives or communications barring or removing climate change-related words or phrases from formal communications. The Center for Biological Diversity also sought production of information, including webpages, that had allegedly been removed at the direction of the Trump administration. The Center submitted its FOIA requests in late March and early April 2017.
