Richardson v. Clarno
Case Documents:
Filing Date Type File Action Taken Summary 01/16/2020 Order Decision to reject initiative petitions set aside. Oregon Court Reinstated Clean Energy Ballot Initiatives. An Oregon Circuit Court set aside the Oregon Secretary of State’s decision to reject two clean energy ballot initiatives and allowed the measures to be processed and circulated for the November 2020 election. The court found that the measures—which would require Oregon to produce 100% of its electricity using renewable energy and carbon free sources by 2045 and in doing so to meet minimum labor standards and ensure that all customers and communities benefit equally—did not violate the Oregon Constitution’s “single-subject” requirement for initiative petitions. The court reportedly said the labor and equity provisions could be encompassed within a single subject with the clean energy mandates. 01/08/2020 Petition Download Petition filed.
