Three Idaho environmental groups filed a complaint in the federal district court for the District of Idaho alleging that the U.S. Forest Service violated NEPA, the National Forest Management Act, and the Forest Service Organic Act when it approved a mine exploration project in the Boise National Forest. The plaintiffs faulted the Forest Service’s NEPA review for failing to consider the impacts of the project on Sacajawea’s bitterroot. The complaint alleged that the project site was home to the world’s largest populations of this flower and that the flower’s long-term survival was at risk due to climate change and other threats.
